In the beginning of August Department of Political Science welcomed more than 40 students from China for the Summer School on European Studies. These young people represent Department’s partner university - North China Institute of Science and Technology, NCIST.
The School was opened by honourable Ambassador of Latvia in China - Maris Selga- and the Director of the Latvian Institute - Aiva Rozenberga. During the studies participants had the opportunity to discuss contemporary topical issues of European Union in a guidance of prof. Žaneta Ozoliņa and assoc. prof. Iveta Reinholde. The main achievements of European integration and its management, as well as the challenges faced during last period were analysed. In parallel with the studies, the students were acquainted with the history and culture of Latvia.
This kind of summer school is taking place for the second year in a row and is one of the outstanding results of the successful work of the "One Belt, One Way Initiative of China-Latvia Academic Cooperation Centre" placed in Department of Political Science. A similar centre is also operating at the North China Institute of Science and Technology. Thanks to cooperation between the two parties, Chinese students can acquire the Latvian language as well as gain a wider knowledge of the Latvian state, its society and culture, including visiting Riga during their studies. Asoc. prof. Iveta Reinholde points out that the Centre for Academic Cooperation is actively working to promote the internationalization of political science studies in Latvia.
More information about the Centre’s activities is available at the University of Latvia, Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Political Science. Contact person: assoc. prof. Iveta Reinholde. E-mail: .
