The Nordic-Baltic Doctoral Network in Social Work (NBSW) is a joint network of the doctoral schools, universities and other institutions in social work in seven countries. The network provides research training for PhD students in social work in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, but also for PhD students in social work from countries outside the network.

LU Social Sciences faculty’s doctoral student, Oskars Gruziņš, discovers a rare photograph of the 1949 mass deportation

On Monday, March 25th, at 15.00 an event will be held at the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia (Raina bulv. 7), where a photograph of the 25 March 1949 Soviet deportations will be premiered. This unique document, one of four photos known to exist, was found during a scientific expedition in 25 July, 2018 by Oskars Gruziņš. Gruziņš, a PhD student in communication science at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Latvia, found the photo as a result of his research in the Maria Sklodowska-Kiri innovative training network "Children born of war- past present, and future" (CHIBOW).

Riga 1941 – 1944, through the lens of a German officer’s Cinema Camera

On January 24, 2019, at 17.00, the event "Riga 1941–1944, through the lens of a German officer’s Cinema Camera" will take place at the temporary premises of the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia (Raiņa bulvāris 7). During the event, unique cinematographic materials, found during the Marie Skłodowska Curie Innovative Training Network project “Children Born of War – Past, Present and Future (CHIBOW),” will be premiered.

The second international conference Riga Readings in Social Sciences (RRSS) organized by the Advanced Social and Political Research Institute (ASPRI), Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Latvia will take place in Riga on November 22-23.
