The 30th Annual European Society For Social Drug Research Conference Is Hosted In Riga

Latvia University Social Science Faculty in collaboration with the European Society for Social Drug Research (ESSD) and the Ministry of Interior hosts the 30th annual conference in Riga between the 26th to the 28th of September. ESSD is a European level conference that takes place in different European cities each year. Riga is the first of the Baltic cities to be chosen to host.

International scientific project “E-leadership in local government organizations”

Four universities-partners (Siauliai University (Lithuania), Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences (Germany), University of Latvia (Latvia) and University of Tartu (Estonia)) is implementing the international scientific project ʺE-leadership in local government organizationsʺ (01.06.2019-15.11.2019). This project of the Baltic-German University Liaison Office is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funds from the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic Germany (agreement No. 2019/14 on financing the project of the Baltic german university liaison office /Nr.SU-27- (8.2)).

The Nordic-Baltic Doctoral Network in Social Work (NBSW) is a joint network of the doctoral schools, universities and other institutions in social work in seven countries. The network provides research training for PhD students in social work in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, but also for PhD students in social work from countries outside the network.

LU Social Sciences faculty’s doctoral student, Oskars Gruziņš, discovers a rare photograph of the 1949 mass deportation

On Monday, March 25th, at 15.00 an event will be held at the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia (Raina bulv. 7), where a photograph of the 25 March 1949 Soviet deportations will be premiered. This unique document, one of four photos known to exist, was found during a scientific expedition in 25 July, 2018 by Oskars Gruziņš. Gruziņš, a PhD student in communication science at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Latvia, found the photo as a result of his research in the Maria Sklodowska-Kiri innovative training network "Children born of war- past present, and future" (CHIBOW).
